Textile Exchange

The differentiation of companies in the global market is increasingly achieved through the demonstration of sustainability practices.

The Textile Exchange is a global not-for-profit organization whose goals are to drive increased adoption of preferred (sustainable) fibers and materials and increase integrity throughout the supply chain, through the adoption of standards and certifications. In this way, Textile Exchange is contributing to the collective achievement of climate reduction goals and holistic positive impacts in the production of fibers and raw materials.

Textile Exchange standards require every step of the supply chain to be certified, from the raw material producer to the seller in the last business-to-business transaction, with sustainability claims being verified from raw material to final product. APCER is applying to certify processing and trading of textile products.

APCER is accredited by IOAS for product certification. Accreditation number: Contract No. 147. See www.ioas.org/accreditation/accredited-bodies/ for current information.
  • Content Claim Standard (CCS) – chain of custody certification to ensure the accuracy of material content claims;
  • Recycled Claim Standard (RCS) – verification of the use of recycled material throughout the supply chain, and the increase of this type of materials;
  • Global Recycled Standard (GRS) - verification of the increased use of recycled materials in products and the reduction/elimination of damages caused by their production. It also validates Social Responsibility, Environmental and Chemical practices throughout the process.

The cost structure associated with providing this service will be available upon request.

Sustainability Reports

The non-financial performance of organizations is increasingly relevant to the various stakeholders, namely the environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance.

With the publication of European Directive 2022/2464 on corporate sustainability reporting, the number of companies required to report sustainability information has increased, and the reported information shall be verified by an independent third party.

APCER offers two types of services to support organizations in fulfilling these obligations:

  • Support in preparing Sustainability Reports through consultancy: We support the communication of your company's environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance by identifying improvement opportunities and creating a narrative that reflects the values and commitments of your organization. This report is an essential tool to consolidate trust with investors, clients, and other strategic partners.
  • Verification of sustainability reports and disclosures: Prepared in accordance with ESRS (European Sustainability Reporting Standards), GRI - Global Reporting Initiative, or other recognized reporting standards, as well as those defined by the organization. These globally recognized frameworks identify the principles for organizations to make their activities and management more sustainable by setting goals, measuring performance, and managing change. These standards also outline the content for preparing sustainability disclosures and reports, through which organizations disclose their positive and negative impacts on the environment, society, and economy, as well as the commitments made to improve their performance. For verification purposes, APCER performs these verifications in accordance with the standards of AccountAbility, particularly the AA1000 Assurance Standard, being a licensed verification body by that entity.

Sustainability in the Wine Sector

The National Standard for Sustainability Certification in the Wine Sector, a portuguese standard, aims to promote the sustainability of organizations in the wine sector, both nationally and internationally, by highlighting sustainability certification in the marketed product.

This standard aims to respond to the main challenges facing the wine sector in adapting the sustainability approach:

  • Maintaining a sustainable market in line with society's expectations, both inside and outside the organization, while maintaining economic and productive competitiveness;
  • Improving society's trust in wine companies by implementing a sustainability-based approach;
  • To develop sustainable viticulture with the aim of preventing negative environmental impacts and adapting to climate change by adapting production practices.

The National Standard for Sustainability Certification in the Wine Sector is based on the following 5 principles:

  • Principle 1 - The sustainable approach integrates environmental, social and economic aspects
  • Principle 2 - Sustainable viticulture respects the environment
  • Principle 3 - Sustainable winegrowing is sensitive to social and cultural aspects
  • Principle 4 - Sustainable viticulture aims to maintain economic viability
  • Principle 5 - Sustainable initiatives require planning and evaluation.

It considers 4 central intervention vectors: 1 - Management and Continuous Improvement, 2 - Environmental, 3 - Social and 4 - Economic, with a set of indicators (86), 28 of which are “KO” indicators, organized into chapters (17) and distributed across the 4 Intervention Domains.

The Wine Sector Sustainability Certification is applicable to organizations in the national wine sector, regardless of size and level of progress in implementing sustainability practices, focused on creating economic, cultural, social and environmental value, whose practices and results are shared with their stakeholders and taking into account environmental and social concerns.

The different categories of operators covered are: Distiller, Bottler, Wine Vinegar Manufacturer, Preparer, Viticulturist, Winegrower and Winegrower-bottler.

SLCP
