New FSC® Forest Management Accreditation Strengthens Commitment to Sustainability
Forest certification is one of the key pillars in ensuring the preservation of forests and the sustainability of the supply chain for forest-based products. With this commitment, we have just obtained the FSC® Forest Management (FM) accreditation (FSC® A000537), expanding our FSC® certification offering and strengthening our support for companies seeking more sustainable practices.
Until now, we offered FSC Chain of Custody (CoC) certification, which ensures the traceability of wood and other forest-based products throughout the supply chain. With the new FSC FM accreditation, we now also certify the sustainable management of forests, ensuring that the wood comes from responsibly managed areas, in accordance with demanding environmental, social, and economic criteria.
This achievement responds to a growing global concern about forest preservation. According to the SOFO 2024 report from FAO, forests play a critical role in mitigating climate change, supporting biodiversity, and sustaining local economies. However, approximately 10 million hectares of forest are lost every year, making it essential to adopt certified sustainable forest management practices.
Why is FSC Forest Management certification important?
FSC FM certification ensures that forests are managed responsibly and transparently. Some of the main benefits of this certification include:
- Conservation of natural resources – ensures the protection of ecosystems and forest biodiversity.
- Guarantee of good working conditions and respect for local community rights – ensures that forestry activities comply with strict social standards.
- Access to markets and competitive differentiation – an increasing number of businesses and consumers demand FSC® certified products, aligning with ESG goals and responsible purchasing criteria.
Currently, more than 230 million hectares of forest worldwide are certified by FSC, a number that continues to grow as businesses recognize the importance of traceability and certification in the supply chain.
With this new accreditation, we strengthen our role in promoting forest certification and supporting companies that wish to adopt more sustainable and transparent practices. The global market is increasingly aware of the origin of forest products, and FSC certification is one of the most recognized standards for ensuring that forests are managed responsibly.
